Peru | Pizzeria Trattoria El Italiano Máncora

Italian food wasn’t my first choice in Máncora, in fact I was on the hunt for a steakhouse my course tutors had told me about. I found out the next day that not only was it less than ten minutes from my hostel, I would have walked it past it several times in my quest to find it! How did I end up in this back alley pizzeria? It was actually a fancy back alley, more just around the corner in what was a mostly pavement barrio.

I had taken a moto to try and find the steakhouse and the driver went the opposite way. If you’re visiting Máncora, have a general idea where a restaurant is as even the locals sometimes get lost!

Best Ugly Bagels

Why did Best Ugly Bagels decide to go with the Montreal dough? “For a start it's crispier on the outside, yet chewy on the inner. These bagels have an airy texture and are not dense like their southern relations. Montreal bagels also exhibit a slightly sweet edge, and unlike the New York variety, they contain no salt!” There’s just enough crunch to make sure your toppings don’t slide off and you can eat it with your hands!

Owner, Al, wanted to bring the authentic Montreal bagel to New Zealand, so he and his team trained at where they considered the spiritual home of extraordinary bagel, Saint Viateur in Montreal. You can read the full backstory on their website - it’s so interesting.

RonnaEats | Walk and Eat in Wellington

Oh wow, Wellington! A few days in New Zealand’s capital made me regret not bringing my usual ‘eating jeans’ (you know, the ones you have when you’re about to have a feast!). This trip was really just to catch up with friends I had not seen in years - and what better way to catch up with friends than with food. Most of these places were recommended by locals, and those in my books are the best kind.

Wellington is a city best explored on foot, well at least on a sunny day. If you’re staying away from the CBD, I highly recommend to bus in (or catch the train and walk) to save yourself the stress of trying to find a park. I will definitely be back Wellington, and hopefully this time, not too long between drinks!

RonnaEats | Tauranga Coffee Festival 2018

I walked into the Tauranga Coffee Festival around 1pm and the place was packed. Even though the sun was shining, the cold wind that blew through the space wouldn’t let me forget that it was still Winter. Luckily, this was a coffee festival and there was no shortage of food and drinks on offer.
